Galena Stone Info

You think you need patience to enjoy scotch aged sixteen years? Please. We've been aging our stone since before the dinosaurs. (Note: we checked the stone this morning and we thinks its finally done - feel free to order as much as you want.) Approximately 440 million years ago during the Ordovician period a species of colonial blue-green algae which prospered in the low light of the sea bed produced a calcareous, honeycomb-like fossil named Receptaculites. Add extremely intense pressure and epic time scales to the calcium carbonate fossils (these conditions can be achieved naturally or by spending Chrismas with my inlaws) and you get limestone. During the Ordovician, much of this part of the midwest was covered by a shallow sea populated with primitive creatures (the media elites on both coasts still believe this is true). Seawater filtering through limestone will eventually cause some of the calcium in the limestone to be replaced by magnesium. This resulting stone, dolomitic limestone (CaMg(CO3)2), is what we sell.

Although we have no idea what any of that means, its still a pretty geeky lecture for a bunch of rednecks, huh?
